Watch out — this summer, the planets are still being messy. Mars’ dance in Cancer from August 11th to September 27th highlights honesty, nostalgia, and passive aggressiveness. We’re being taken out of our comfort zones as we stand up for what we believe in.

Mars is considered to be in its “fall” when in Cancer, which means that the planet of aggression and action tends to behave indirectly rather than being confrontational. Mars in Cancer will find different ways to assert itself, veering from the norm. For example, this energy pushes us to flirt with our ex’s bestie instead of sending a text to get their attention. Also, Mars in Cancer alters its flow every few days, as the sign and phases of the moon (the planetary ruler of Cancer) are always evolving; it’s hard for us to be consistent.

Don’t be disheartened as there are some amazing attributes of Mars in Cancer. On a good day, Mars in Cancer genuinely cares for loved ones, offering protection and nurturing. This placement will go to extremes to help those it adores. History speaks louder than words, so Mars in Cancer defends those who share memories and are like family. The loyalty Mars in Cancer displays is like no other — especially when the chips are down for a friend or family member. Not forgetting that Mars in Cancer’s intuition is strong, prevailing in moments of uncertainty and confusion. All the more reason why it leads with its gut.

This year, Mars’s cancer is going to bring an interesting mix our way. The transit starts with Mars aspecting the centaur Chiron on August 12th, which is retrograde in Taurus. At that moment, we are looking inward and how we can use our hearts to heal. On occasion, we may feel as though others have let us down, resulting in anger and defensiveness. There’s an opportunity to recover from the drama as long as we are gentle with ourselves and less critical, trusting in the process of mending situations. Keep in mind that this is a journey that is nonlinear and takes time.

Then Neptune retrograde in Aries squares Mars in Cancer on August 17th, making us feel as though we are stuck in a moment. The caveat is that we are trying to make waves immediately, but the stars are causing stagnation. To deal with this energy, it’s best to stop in our tracks and to take the day off from willfully taking charge of matters. Instead of trying to fit a square peg through a circular hole, focus on self-care. Our dreams will happen tomorrow or sometime in the future, just maybe not on August 17th, so don’t take it personally if we’re told “no,” because this is just a chance for us to make changes and pour more passion into our visions.

Details

The most intense day of Mars’s dive in Cancer occurs on September 1st, when it aspects Saturn retrograde in Aries. Questions and issues with authority figures arise, such as who is the boss, because we want to be the one who makes the rules and rebels against the status quo. Being demanding isn’t going to help the situation, even though we think it will. The exact opposite is true — sometimes you have to play the game and slay them with kindness. The reason is that strategy is vital, giving us the motivation to steer the wheel in the way we please by having control over circumstances.

Mars in Cancer’s celestial swim finalizes with a fraught aspect to Chiron retrograde in Aries on September 27th. Again, there is the potential to work through issues; however, taking another look at the past may be triggering. Centering our focus on the relationship we have with ourselves could lead to accountability. Doing so is complicated because it means that we have to be aware of how we’ve hurt others and the role that we’ve had in situations. September 27th brings us face-to-face with our oppa, encouraging us to have the conversations to get the scoop on how to move forward and evolve. Yes, Mars in Cancer is going to be emotional and intense, but at the end of the transit, we may feel more compassion and empathy for ourselves and better understand how we can make improvements in our lives.
